As soon as I saw Clair Obscur‘s Attributes menu, I naturally wanted to prioritize different Attributes for each character. I went into Expedition 33 assuming we’d need a tank, a speed demon, a healer, and someone to deal crit damage. While this isn’t fully the correct path to go down, it’s a good place to start.
Here are the best Attributes you should prioritize in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Attributes to level up first in Clair Obscur Expedition 33

Regardless of your chosen difficulty, what you need to first determine is what each character excels at. From here, you need to pick Abilities, Pictos, and a weapon based on what will make excellent use of their main stat(s). The goal is to seamlessly string each character’s strongest Attribute together to deal the most damage possible before the enemy attacks.
The least important stat to increase is Defense. You can honestly ignore this. It’s safer to put points in Vitality early on, slowly increasing this as you focus on the more crucial Attribute in Clair, being Agility, this way you always go first. Therefore, the best Attributes for early-game are Vitality and Agility.
Best Gustave Attributes

Gustave is the natural tank of Clair Obscur, who focuses on dealing Physical damage. His Overcharge is incredibly useful, but it can take much longer to reach its full potential compared to the women beside him. However, when it comes to picking Attributes to increase, the best are his Agility and Might.
While you cannot guarantee Gustave will get targeted in a fight, he’s a great final stand character if all else fails. Alternatively, you can increase Gustave’s Defense and neglect his Vitality, focusing more on perfecting the dodge and parry system as you’d want to build his attack power by getting consecutive hits on a target anyways.
Best Maelle Attributes

I’ve found Maelle has the most strategy with her kit as it’s all about getting her in the right stance. You need to plan ahead with this character, having other party members Mark or Burn the enemy to increase Maelle’s damage output.
Depending on your chosen stance, Maelle should have high Luck and Agility. The goal is to get her to go as many times as possible. Going first in a fight and reducing the chances of the enemy getting multiple turns in a row is essential to winning fights.
Best Lune Attributes

Lune is the natural healer on the team and one I strongly feel should never be swapped out. The backbone of the team, Lune can heal herself and her teammates, and provide elemental damage, where most enemy types are weak to a particular element.
Lune can set up Maelle and Gustave nicely as she can Mark or Burn enemies easily. Therefore, we recommend a higher Might and Luck stat.
Best Sciel Attributes

Sciel’s ability power is immense, but sometimes she’s weak in the weapon department (depending on what weapon you have unlocked for her). I’m not sure if this is something only I’ve experienced, but Sciel is often the main party member that gets consistently targeted.
This is when I realized having a set tank isn’t particularly effective unless you’re planning to make them the last one standing in anticipation of a tough fight. But Sciel is powerful, therefore we want to increase this power by building on her Might and Luck.
Best Verso Attributes

As Verso comes into the game from Act II, we recommend looking at his Vitality and Might. Your other party members should have higher Agility at this point, making them impactful throughout a fight, but Verso should focus primarily on power.
As weapons scale with Might, Verso should have high Might, especially if your weapon cuts your health in half. Don’t forget to raise his Agility too, as you don’t want the enemy to target Verso with back-to-back combos.
Best Monoco Attributes

Monoco is a mix of Lune and Gustave. Agility and Might are our top picks for him as you’ll want him to go as much as possible, inflicting Mark and high damage, while focusing on dodging attacks.
Similar to Gustave, you need Monoco to survive attacks so he can build his power. Dodging is safer than parrying, unless you’ve mastered the system and are confident taking on any combo. Like Lune, Monoco can have consecutive turns, therefore investing in his Agility is a must if you want to deal as much damage before your focus shifts to dodging, jumping, and parrying.
