How to get Yaoguai Cores in Black Myth Wukong

Yaoguai Cores are powerful weapon crafting resources that you need to improve your equipment.

Yaoguai Cores are a crafting material you can track down while exploring Black Myth: Wukong. Early on in the game, they’re essential to unlock improved weapons, making you even more powerful against your foes, but finding them can be tricky.

A Yaoguai Core does not drop from a standard enemy. Instead, it’s best to find them by defeating some of the more formidable enemies you can find on your journey. It means you must explore the optional pathways to track them down. These include challenging the optional bosses in Black Myth: Wukong and dispatching them for a Yaoguai Core. The upgrades to your equipment are well worth it.

You can find Yaoguai Cores by defeating the stronger foes in Black Myth: Wukong, such as the Yaoguai Chiefs. These more formidable enemies have a chance to drop Yaoguai Cores to empower your weapons and make them stronger. Many of them are optional, and you do have to make your way off the beaten path to challenge them.

The notable Yaoguai Chiefs you can find early on in Black Myth: Wukong are Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang and Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw. You do not have to fight them to continue the main story, but if you’d like to unlock better weapons against the ones you do have to beat, it’s never a bad idea to explore and find them. Unfortunately, Black Myth: Wukong does not have a map, and tracking their exact location can be tricky. Exploring every area you visit or returning to previous areas using a Shrine doesn’t hurt. Thankfully, if you miss them, you can return to any area from an older chapter, even if you cannot repeat the given chapter.

After you enter the second chapter of Black Myth: Wukong, Yaoguai Cores also appear at shops. You must spend Will to purchase them. If you don’t have enough Will, visiting a Shrine to rest and reset smaller enemies is a good way to farm it. Alternatively, you might want to seek out some of the tougher enemies you can find, such as any Yaoguai Chief you might have missed. You might be able to loot a Yaoguai Core while seeking out more Will, allowing you to earn more than one simultaneously.
