Black Myth: Wukong is not an open-world game. It’s a linear experience with specific bosses blocking your path, and you’ll unlock additional chapters as you go through the game. You might not unlock everything during your first pass, and if so, does this mean you can repeat chapters?
Most linear games prevent you from returning to chapters or block you from going through an area again. With so many secrets and different bosses to find while exploring Black Myth: Wukong, you might feel overwhelmed trying to find everything on your first pass. Thankfully for gamers, you don’t have to feel pressured about that, but you still won’t be able to start the story over again as you go through the chapters.
Can you return to areas in Black Myth Wukong?
We can confirm that you cannot repeat chapters in Black Myth: Wukong. The game goes in a linear story, and you can’t return through the narrative again. But this does not prevent you from returning to old regions. You can do this by clicking the Travel option at a Shrine, and you can go back through any previous area you’ve already unlocked.
If you want to play through the game’s story, completing the major story beats and then running through it to find the secrets, this is entirely viable. That’s a great way to play Black Myth: Wukong, and you don’t have to feel like if you miss something, you won’t be able to find a secret. The three Bells in the first chapter are an excellent example of this. These are optional encounters that you can complete and finish the major story without doing them.
This should make it much easier to work through the story without worrying about missing anything. Nothing stops you from returning to a favorite area, battling through the smaller enemies to level up. You won’t be able to repeat boss battles, though. Any time you defeat a boss, they’re gone, and you’ll need to advance through the game or find more secrets in Black Myth: Wukong if you’d like to find a new challenge.
