If you like Black Myth: Wukong, odds are you want to beat it again after your first playthrough. And thanks to the Great Pagoda secret ending, you can do it without even starting New Game Plus—as long as you’re willing to punch a few deities along the way.
The Great Pagoda area may seem empty when you first encounter it in Chapter Three of Black Myth: Wukong, but it houses one of the game’s most closely guarded secrets. It unlocks the secret area of Mount Mei in Chapter Three, a few unique boss fights, and even a new ending, as if the New West wasn’t large enough already.
Here’s how you can unlock the Great Pagoda secret ending in Black Myth: Wukong.
Black Myth Wukong secret ending: the Great Pagoda
We’ve added a quick, spoiler-free rundown of what you need to do to unlock Black Myth: Wukong‘s secret ending at the Great Pagoda in case you want to get an early start on your prep.
- Complete all six chapters
- Complete all secret areas and some quests
- Enter the Great Pagoda
- Unlock Mount Mei
- Beat a series of bosses
- Replay the final fight in the game
Complete all six chapters
The secret (or “true” ending) only takes place after the base game ends, so you must finish all six chapters before you can unlock it. The game lets you start New Game Plus immediately after you’ve finished Chapter Six, but you can hold off on doing it until you’ve tied up all loose ends.
Complete all secret areas and quests
Here’s a list of the main steps I took before unlocking the final part of the Great Pagoda. I also completed all secret objectives, including the Loong quest line and most secret quests in each area. You may not need to do everything, according to Polygon, but it’s worth doing them regardless to get some extra Experience and Will.
- Chapter One:
- Ringing all three bells (unlocks secret area)
- Secret area: Ancient Guanyi Temple—Elder Jinchi
- Chapter Two:
- Boar questline (unlocks secret area)
- Secret area: Kingdom of Sahālī—Tiger Vanguard and Fuban
- Secret boss: Shigandang
- Chapter Three:
- Treasure Hunter quest (required)—Green-Capped Martialist
- Fox questline (Forest of Felicity)
- Chapter Four:
- Venom Daoist quest (unlocks secret area)
- Secret area: Purple Cloud Mountain—The Duskveil
- Chapter Five:
- Five Carts quest (unlocks secret area, close to Horse Guai quest)
- Secret area: Bishui Cave—Bottom Goes Top, Top Goes Bottom and Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast
- Chapter Six:
- Story bosses
- Giant Shigandang boss fight (Skandha quest finale)
The Treasure Hunter quest in the third map is required to unlock the secret behind the Great Pagoda, since it involves the Child Buddha. A friend did the same steps except for this quest, and he was locked out of the ending until he finished it.
Enter the Great Pagoda and unlock the Chapter Three Secret Area, Mount Mei
After you’ve completed all these steps, head to the Great Pagoda in the New West. The closest shrine is the Snow-Veiled Trail. Make a right, go past the bridge, then make a left up a hill and go until you find a secret gate.
If you’ve done everything right, the Child Buddha will be waiting for you on the other side of the room, close to the bare wall in the center. Talk to him and be ready for a tough fight against an old frenemy. Wearing Wukong’s armor and staff may be necessary to trigger this, according to Polygon.
Fight Erlang, Sacred Divinity
Erlang, Sacred Divinity is an endgame boss, and you need to be at the top of your game to take him down. He won’t go down as quickly as in the tutorial. This fight should become considerably easier in NG+ thanks to the secret spell Life-Saving Strand, which does exactly what its name says.
Erlang has everything to make him a frustrating boss fight: a sturdy stance bar, delayed moves, fast attacks, long combos, and ground AoEs—and if that wasn’t enough, he can also dodge your attacks with four Focus.
I took him down by learning his patterns and using perfect dodges to gather Focus without being too vulnerable, then using Focus attacks with the Thrust Stance to rip chunks of his health. If you’ve done either the Horse Guai or the Loong secret quests, using one of their transformations may help thanks to the lightning resistance.
Fight the Four Heavenly Kings
Now, Black Myth: Wukong meets God of War. After the fight with Erlang Shen, you will transform into primal, mythical beings. In your case, you can become a King Kong-like version of the Stone Monkey, which lets you viciously pummel your opponents. To let you familiarize yourself with your new form, Erlang Shen throws the four Heavenly Kings under the bus by pitting them against you.
The God of War part comes after you beat each of them, with increasingly brutal moves that are almost a toned-down version of Fatalities from Mortal Kombat.
Fight Erlang Shen again (but not that fight)
After you’ve eliminated the Four Heavenly Kings, it’s time to fight Erlang Shen again, but in his primal form. You don’t have to worry about comically large axes or shock AoEs, either: This time, you just need to punch him until he drops.
Taking down Erlang Shen again grants you two big rewards: the Tri-Point Double-Edged Spear and the Azure Dome transformation. This is the end of the questline, as far as rewards go, but you can watch a new cutscene if you take down the game’s final boss once more.
Bonus cutscene: Repeat the Final boss fight in Chapter Six
You can replay the fight against the final bosses at any time by teleporting to the Peak of Innocence shrine in the Chapter Six area and interacting with the object in the clearing. After defeating the last couple of bosses, the game plays a different ending cutscene in the style of its end-of-chapter animations.
Black Myth Wukong secret ending rewards
- Tri-Point Double-Edged Spear Mythical weapon
- Azure Dome transformation
- Upgrade materials
- New post-game cutscene (If you’ve defeated the final boss again)
The Tri-Point Double-Edged Spear is a viable endgame weapon for fans of the spear moveset. It has 135 Attack, six percent crit chance, and the spear moveset. As a unique effect, Forceful Thrust shoots swords when used.
The Azure Dome Transformation, on the other hand, lets you turn into a Stone Monkey with access to the Destined One’s spells. Use your punches to build Focus, then spend it by casting your magic. You can also infuse your fists with elements.
