Dragonflight is the most alt-friendly expansion in WoW. It allows alts to skip through the main campaign and level up by completing world quests, quickly gear up, and take over Mythic+ dungeons and raids in the hunt for better gear. There are four main methods of gearing up your alts.
So, here’s how you can quickly gear your alts in Dragonflight’s most recent patch, Patch 10.2. While many of the older gearing methods from Path 10.1 still work, many of them are not as effective anymore. With the methods below, I got my alt from sub-400 gear to 430+ in about two days. Not to mention, leveling your alt in the Emerald Dream was a breeze.

How to gear alts in the Emerald Dream in WoW Dragonflight
Back in patch 10.1.7, players had many options for how to get fast alt gear. However, since Season three launched on Nov. 7, it’s never been easier to level your alts. Instead of having a list of various leveling methods, all you really need in 10.2 is to get to Emerald Dream. Just doing regular quests with your alts in the Emerald Dream will get you, almost, max gear available in the previous patch (ilvl 415).
To gear your alts, here is what you have to do.
- Unlock Emerald Dream with your main character (account unlock)
- Visit Emerald Dream with your alt
- Do almost any new activity within the Emerald Dream
It’s a little sad that you can basically ignore all the wonderful things on the Dragon Isles and just focus on the brand-new zones, but this is how Blizzard has done WoW updates in the past, and I guess things haven’t changed much since. You can still gear in the Forbidden Reach, Zaralek Caverns and World quest around the Isles, but it won’t be nearly as effective as in the Emerald Dream. Thanks to YouTuber SignsOfKelani for offering a lot of input with his videos.
How to gear alts with Emerald Dream story quests in WoW Dragonflight
As soon as you go through the portal and enter Emerald Dream with your alt, start doing quests (again). Go through the story and you’ll be able to pick up some Explorer gear that now ranges from ilvl 415 – 437. Most quests will award you with gear around iLevel 420 – 425. You can upgrade your explorer gear if you want, but I would suggest saving your material for the next few methods. I really like the Emerald Dream story quest, so I gladly did it again.

Hopefully, you’ve also unlocked World Quests in the Emerald Dream with your Main. If that’s the case, you can start doing them almost immediately with your alt. Just like with regular quests, you can also get explorer level gear with World Quests. However, some of them do offer Adventure Gear as rewards.
Adventure gear can be anywhere from iLvl 428 – 450. Realistically, you’ll get Advenutre gear in the high iLvl 430s without upgrading. Feel free to upgrade these if you have extra mats but don’t go too crazy with them. Additionally, if you happen to see a rare spawn somewhere in Emerald Dream, kill it because they can also drop Adventure gear.
How to gear alts with Emerald Dream Weekly Quests in WoW Dragonflight
Weekly quests are where you’ll get your Veteran gear, which should be more than enough for very decent alt characters. Veteran gear ranges from iLvl 441- 463. Having a full Veteran gear set is pretty much all you need to start Mythic+ dungeons with your alts. Unfortunately, you’ll be limited to how many gear pieces you can get, since these are weekly quests. Here are the weekly quests you can do in the Emerald Dream:
- A Worthy Ally: Dreamwardens – You also get a Spark of Dreams via this quest
- Blooming Dreamseeds
- The Superbloom
Each of these gives you a veteran gear piece, normally around iLvl 450, and upgrading these is highly recommended. Additionally, if you see a World Boss in the Emerald Dream, get in there quickly for a weekly loot drop which is usually a Veteran Gear piece.
How to gear up alts through crafting in WoW Dragonflight
If you’ve got the skills or the funds for commissions on the Crafting Board, you can craft your alt gear quite easily. Other than the basic materials for each piece, you’ll also need an Enchanted Whelpling’s Dreaming Crest. With this additional crafting item, you can quickly make some sweet alt gear from ilvl 434 – 447.
Now, there is also the upgraded version of this item called the Enchanted Aspect’s Dreaming Crest. With this baby, you can get your iLvl from 473 – 486. As you can imagine, this requires a lot of skill, only the best materials and a Spark of Dreams, which you can only get once per week. I think you should just stick with regular Enchanted Whelpling’s Dreaming Crest items for your alts and save the Aspect’s Dreaming Crest for your main.
What is the fastest and the best way to gear alts?
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the best way to gear alts is to just visit Emerald Dream and do whatever you come across. Start with regular quests and eventually move up to World Quests and Weekly quests and you’ll gear up in no time at all. I’m sad that all other activities on the Dragon Isles are going to become redundant, but that’s just how Blizzard does things. Have fun leveling your alts.
