Among the multiple facilities in Once Human, the Water Pump performs several tasks apart from just delivering water to your base. It can be used to extract oil and even polluted water which can be turned into acid, a critical resource for producing fuel. However, the game doesn’t make it clear how you can use these facilities to your advantage.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Water Pump and its uses in Once Human

To construct the Water Pump in Once Human, you need to unlock the facility in the Memetic Tree’s logistics tab with Energy Links and Ciphers. After that, you need to get and use 25 steel ingots, 20 carbon fiber fabrics, 20 Refined Parts, 20 Standard Parts, and 20 Electronic Parts to deploy one Water Pump.

While placing a Water Pump in your base might seem self-explanatory, its placement gives you different products. As you can only have four power generators to power your pumps, consuming 10W each, here is a cheat sheet that you can use to place your Water Pumps in the right spots:

  • Open Water Source: If you’re building a Water Pump in the starting region’s land or water bodies, you’ll get dirty water. Dirty water can be boiled to make Boiled Water safe for consumption or put into a Compact water filter to get Purified Water to use in the Brewing barrel.
  • Polluted Water Source: If you’re looking to farm acid, find a polluted area and build your Water Pump in any water body or land, and it’ll pump polluted water. The polluted water can be refined into impure acid, and when mixed with purified water, it produces acid. You lose your sanity very quickly in polluted areas, so drink up some Ale before going to these places to avoid a blackout.
  • Oil Field: If you go to the Blackheart and Red Sands regions, you should find shiny black spots on the ground, signifying oil deposits. Place your Water Pump in these places, and it should get crude oil for you, which can be converted into fuel to use in your vehicles.

Now that you know all the ways of extracting key resources, let us also tell you about another Water Pump plug that helps you transfer the water to your Water Tank to fully automate your purifying process. You can make the Water Pump plug by investing 30 Steel Ingots, 10 Refined Parts, and two Electronic Parts.

Once you’re done, make sure to put the Water Pump plug on the wall and power it up by giving it 1W of power. The plug has one input and output panel. You can put one pipe from your Water Pump into it and tie the other end to your Water Tank. Naturally, gravity will act in a way where your water moves into the Pump in a downward direction, you can simply turn on your Water Pump plug using a switch to reverse the water flow and neglect gravity as long you have sufficient power to meet your demands.
