‘With 6-Across, “Let me start by saying …”‘ NYT Mini Crossword clue Aug. 15 answer and hints

Another two-for-one crossword special.

I enjoy a good challenge, but today’s NYT crossword puzzle feels impossible to solve because you only have one clue to solve two separate clues—this is another joined clue.

“With Six-Across, ‘Let me start by saying …'” is one of the clues from the NYT’s Aug. 15 Mini Crossword puzzle, and it goes with six-across, “See one across.” If you’re stuck, you’re in the right place because I have the answers to both of these clues below.

  • Hint 1: The answer to one-across is one word.
  • Hint 2: The answer to six-across is two words.
  • Hint 3: The answer to one-across is the place before second and third.
  • Hint 4: The answer to six across’ words starts with “O” and “A.”

The answer to the “With 6-Across, ‘Let me start by saying …'” clue is “FIRST,” and the answer to six across, “see one across,” is “OF ALL.” First of all is an idiom many commonly use to indicate before doing something else. In that situation, you could also use “firstly” (which would have been a much nicer answer if seven-letter words fit properly).

NYT crossword clue ‘With 6-Across, “Let me start by saying …”‘ difficulty

I’d give this clue a five out of five; of all the crossword clue types, my least favorite ones are the two-for-ones, where you have to answer one clue to solve another. It’s especially frustrating because if you can’t solve the first clue, the second clue’s impossible unless you finish all the other crossword answers. Even then, you have to guess what the two clues are based on the limited letters provided. They can be very tricky.
