The answer to six across in the Sept. 10 New York Times Mini Crossword is “EMOTE.” According to Merriam-Webster, the word “Emote” means “to give expression to emotion, especially in acting.” So, it fits perfectly with the clue, “Act melodramatically,” which is common in theatre and acting. Emotes are also common in online video games, where a player character performs a short animation—like a wave or cheer—to express themselves or communicate.
