Overwatch’s 10th season of Competitive Play begins tonight.
Season nine ended on April 27, and season 10 begins after a short break. The season is scheduled to begin at 7pm CT on April 30. The three-day break has hopefully given competitive Overwatch players the chance to brush up on the game’s new support hero, Brigitte.

She’s been disabled in Competitive Play for the entirety of season nine, and will make her debut in competitive at the launch of the new season. Brigitte was added to Overwatch on March 20. A new rule in Overwatch had her disabled for the entire competitive season as a way to give Overwatch’s competitive seasons their own distinct feels, according to Overwatch developer Geoff Goodman.
The delayed entrance into competitive Overwatch also gave players a chance to get used to the new hero. Fans weren’t necessarily happy about the season long delay, however. Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan said that Blizzard is listening to player feedback regarding new heroes in Competitive Play.
“We’re following this feedback closely,” Kaplan wrote. “We made this change with the best intentions as we frequently heard complaints from players that we were introducing new heroes to Competitive Play too quickly.”
A new map, Rialto, will likely be added to Overwatch during season 10. It’s unclear when it’ll enter the map rotation for the ranked mode, or if it’ll stay disabled for the entirety of the season. Rialto is still in testing on the Overwatch PTR.
