Most of the Overwatch community might be focused on the new Workshop function, but the developers haven’t forgotten to bump the game’s lore up a notch.

A newly-released “archived file” video goes deeper into the lore of Talon’s omnic financier, Maximilien. He had a large role in the Overwatch Storm Rising mission, but it was left on somewhat of a cliffhanger—until now.

The Storm Rising story mission revolved around a past event during which Tracer, Genji, Winston, and Mercy chased Maximilien down in Havana, Cuba. At the end of the mission, they corner “Max” before he escapes on a private helicopter. Ever the negotiator, he asks Mercy what kind of deal they can make. She demands an introduction, and the story cuts to a meeting between Doomfist and a mysterious, unnamed omnic.

We’re given the answer as to who the Overwatch strike team wants to meet, but not what happened to Maximilien. The newly-released video gives audio of Maximilien’s interrogation after the Storm Rising mission’s conclusion. “Doomfist? Yes, yes you would be interested in Doomfist,” Maximilien says in the video. This confirms that the strike team was after Doomfist all along.

“You know what you’re asking me is not simple,” he continues, referring to Overwatch‘s interest in finding Doomfist. After confirming that he’s making a deal with Overwatch to conceal that he’s the one providing this information, Maximilien delivers a time and location.

“Doomfist will be in Singapore in three weeks’ time,” Maximilien said. Doomfist’s origin story video revolved around his escape from prison and a flashback to his capture. He was brought into Overwatch custody after being defeated by Tracer, Winston, and Genji in an unknown location.

Thanks to this new video, we now know that Maximilien directed the strike team to Doomfist’s location and had a hand in his eventual capture. While Maximilien asked Overwatch not to tell Doomfist that he provided information about his whereabouts, the release of this video questions if Overwatch kept their part of the deal. Perhaps the truth will come out and, in the future, Maximilien may be the one who needs saving.
