A huge amount of money is on the line for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game players.
Developer CD Projekt RED has announced Gwent Masters, an official esports tournament series for players around the world. Gwent Masters will include a series of tournaments that lead into the Gwent World Masters tournament. There are three tiers of tournaments—Gwent Open, Gwent Challenger, and Gwent World Masters with a total of $850,000 on the line.
Gwent Open is designed as an entry-level Gwent Masters tournament. Participants will be determined by professional ladder points, called Crown Points, at the end of each two-month season. Eight Gwent Open tournaments will be held throughout a Gwent Masters series, with each offering $25,000 in prizes. Two finalists will earn a spot in the Gwent Challengers event, with all participants earning Crown Points.
Gwent Challenger is the second-tier tournament in the series. These events will happen every two ladder seasons, so every four months. Eight participants will battle for a $100,000 prize pool. After four Challenger events, eight players will enter the Gwent World Masters tournament, all of which will be chosen from previous Challenger events and Crown points. A $250,000 prize pool will be up for grabs.
All the details are available on the Gwent esports website.
The Pro Ladder season for Gwent begins Sept. 1, with the first Open tournament kicking off Aug. 25 at gamescom in Cologne, Germany. There’s a ton of money on the line, across plenty of Gwent tournaments—so get to racking up those Crown Points.
