Despite rumors that Enrique “xPeke” Cedeño Martínez, one of League of Legends biggest stars, was leaving Fnatic after three years with the team, it was a shock when it finally happened.

Martinez said he left to create his own team and brand, and at the Gamergy event in Spain this weekend, he gave the first glimpse of that future.

Origen will be Martinez’s new team. The Spanish word for “origin,” Martinez stated in his speech to a crowd at Gamergy that this was a new beginning for him, an origin, if you will.

That’s “origen”—not “origin”—in case you weren’t listening. Martinez made sure to announce the name at a Spanish event due to the distinction in pronunciation.

The team already has a website set up, www.origen.gg, though at the moment it only hosts the team’s logo. The @origengg Twitter account is also active, posting a few pictures from the announcement.

Of course, the real question is just what players will embark on this new adventure with Martinez. He’s stated that at least one other Spaniard will likely be on the team, but other hints are scarce so far.

Whatever happens, it will be interesting to see if Martinez can really build another League of Legends powerhouse from scratch.
