League of Legends off season heats up as free agent pool grows

With the League of Legends season now over, the annual roster merry-go-round has begun

With the League of Legends season now over, the annual roster merry-go-round has begun. Two more European players joined the swelling free agency pool over the weekend.

Erik “Tabzz” van Helvert of Elements and Lucas “Cabochard” Simon-Meslet of Gambit announced over the weekend they would be leaving their current teams.

Both Elements and Gambit had relatively disappointing Summer Splits. Both failed to qualify for the playoffs, with Gambit only retaining their LCS spot after defeating Mousesports in a playoff.

Van Helvert was a part of the Elements roster until the 2015 Spring Split when he was replaced Martin “Rekkles” Larsson, who later returned to Fnatic after a disappointing season with Elements. Van Helvert returned to the roster for the Summer Split, but the team once again underperformed.

In addition to Van Helvert and Simon-Meslet, H2k Gaming coach Neil “PR0LLY” Hammad also announced his departure from the organisation following a successful first year in the LCS. H2k finished third in both the Spring and Summer Splits, and many credit Hammad as a key architect of their strong performances. His contract expired on Oct. 25.
