This year, the LPL group draw was done in a very quick manner. Teams were split into 4 tiers with tier 1 being the highest ranked (LGD and EDG). Teams were placed into two groups (A and B) and drawn from each tier in the following order: 1,4,2,3. The draw was performed by two LPL casters alongside ex-WE mid laner, Yu “Misaya” Jingxi.

Teams within each group will play each other twice in the LPL spring season, with each match being a best of 3 series. The two highest ranked teams will automatically advance to the semifinals when it comes to the playoffs. The second place teams will go straight to the quarterfinals and the third and fourth place teams will face off for a place in the quarterfinals, with the  third place teams starting off with a game advantage. The fifth and sixth place teams will be playing in the LPL promotion tournament for the chance to stay in the summer season.

Group A consists of the following teams: LGD, Snake, QG, WE, M3, and EPA.

Group B: EDG, IG, VG, RNG, OMG, and HYG.

While both of these groups were picked randomly, it is quiet obvious that group B is the tougher of the two with even the tier 3 teams like OMG being able to put up a good fight. On the contrary, group A is full of teams that still have a lot to prove to their fans. From tier 3 WE to tier 1 LGD, all of these teams have not looked particularly consistent in this season and therefore will want to prove themselves in the coming year.
