One of the oldest champions in League of Legends made a rather rare appearance in pro play earlier today—and it went about as well as you’d probably expect.
In the 2024 LCK Summer Split match between Hanwha Life Esports and OKSavingsBank BRION on Aug. 8, BRION top laner Morgan locked in Nasus. This marked the first time Nasus has been played in the LCK in 1,251 days, according to the official LCK broadcast. The last time this League champ graced the LCK stage before today was in March 2021.
Facing a 1-0 deficit in the best-of-three series, BRION’s (2-12) Morgan seemingly decided to throw a curveball at the 11-3 HLE with the last pick of the draft. And things started about as well as they could have for Morgan’s Nasus as he picked up a solo kill for first blood on Doran’s Kennen three minutes into the game.
But from that point on, the match was all HLE. Hanwha Life ended the game in 23 minutes with a 15-3 advantage in kills. To Morgan’s credit, though, he posted a 2/4/0 scoreline on Nasus, meaning he had two of BRION’s three total kills in the game.
Though this Nasus pick didn’t lead to a victory for BRION today, the champion could be on the rise. Nasus currently sports a 51.89-percent win rate in the top lane at all ranks of solo queue, according to League stats site U.GG. And the champ was picked in two LPL games last month, according to stats site Games of Legends, both of which also resulted in losses.
It doesn’t seem like Nasus is in Riot’s plans for the upcoming Patch 14.16 based on the early patch notes, but either way, this might not be the last we see of The Curator of the Sands in the second half of League’s 2024 competitive season.
