How the LEC Spring Split could end in hilarious double five-way tie

Only one week remains to break into the group stage.

With only three weeks in the regular season and multiple teams tied in the standings, the 2023 LEC Spring Split could end in a multitude of ways for all 10 teams competing due to the various tiebreaker situations on the table.

As the competition approaches the final weekend before groups, for example, four teams are currently tied for first with a 4-2 record, two teams are tied at 3-3, and four teams hold a 2-4 record. But if the cards fall just right—and teams perform in just the right way—we could have two five-way ties to end the season.

Popular European shoutcaster Trevor “Quickshot” Henry outlined how the league could finish in such hectic fashion on social media, with Team Vitality, SK Gaming, MAD Lions, KOI, and G2 Esports could all end with the same record, while Excel Esports, Team Heretics, Fnatic, Team BDS, and Astralis could also finish at the bottom with identical 4-5 records.

There are, however, a few upset victories that will have to miraculously align if this is to occur. Fnatic, for example, will need to take down a red-hot G2 Esports on the second day of the weekend, while Heretics will need to beat Vitality. Excel will also have to take down KOI, which looks a lot less likely after the former LEC champs took down both G2 and SK this past week.

In the end, however, this double five-way tie shouldn’t lead to absolute mayhem like many supporters are expecting, but there is a high possibility for more than one tiebreaker match to occur this coming weekend.

Thanks to individual head-to-head records and strength of victory scores, some teams will be automatically placed higher in the standings against their peers. Additionally, if one team manages to break the streak and avoid this exact outcome, a double five-way tie cannot be completed. One thing is for certain: the final weekend of the regular season will be must-watch League.

Catch all the action when the LEC returns on Saturday, March 25 at 12pm CT.
