Caps breaks the EU LCS Summer Split kill record in FNC win over UOL

Who can stop Fnatic's madman in the mid lane?

Fnatic destroyed the Unicorns of Love today in the EU LCS, with star mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Winther breaking the Summer Split record for number of kills.

Caps picked Irelia, a champion that has fallen by the wayside in Patch 8.13. While she was an extremely high priority pick prior to the update, nerfs hurt her laning prowess significantly—but not enough to deter Caps.

The reigning champions got off to a hot start, with Caps picking up a solo kill in the mid lane against UOL mid laner Fabian “Exileh” Schubert. That kill was the start of a massive snowball, as Irelia picked up steam and proceeded to take over the game. Caps kept killing Exileh’s Zoe, bringing joy to the hearts of mid laners everywhere.

While the game was kept somewhat even due to Fnatic’s side lanes failing to do much, no one could keep up with Caps’ lead, and he essentially solo carried the game. Even the damage from Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau’s Gangplank could not compare to Irelia.

With 15 kills, Caps smashed the previous kill record for the split, set by Schalke 04’s Erlend “Nukeduck” VÃ¥tevik Holm. When he set the record, Nukeduck was playing Kai’Sa and was funneled but only ended with 12 kills. Caps reached 15 without the strategy, though he did kill Exileh four times in lane. Even more impressive, he did it on the weakened Irelia. The champion did receive massive buffs on the PBE yesterday, but as Caps showed, maybe we should be chanting “Better Nerf Irelia” instead.

Fnatic will look for revenge against the undefeated Misfits Gaming tomorrow at 1pm CT in the match of the week. The struggling Unicorns will look to eke out a win against Schalke at 10am CT.
