How to solve the train padlock code in Post Trauma

An escape room-style puzzle to kickstart Post Trauma.

Roman awakens inside a rundown train car, unsure of how he got here. A broken padlock stands in his way, blocking the path to the Conductor Room. Few hints are scattered throughout the cars, symbols pointing you in the right direction, but you need to fix the padlock first if you want to escape the cursed, mannequin-filled train cars.

Off the jump, you likely noticed there aren’t many ways to explore. Divided into a few train cars, you’re greeted by the broken padlock, which you need to fix to progress. Interacting with the flashing intercom unlocks the next train car. Looking at the ads dotted around each car will give an insight into how to unlock the padlock, but they only show symbols.

Two symbols can easily be translated to digits, drawn in red on the subway map and the wall next to the broken padlock. You need to go through a crawlspace in the opposite direction of the padlock to find the Padlock Mechanism in the hand of a mannequin at the dead end. Along the way, the padlock sequence is shown as Square, Triangle, Circle, Cross, and Triangle. This is relevant to the subway map.

By referring to the sequence and the symbols we’ve already seen, we can write down that Square is seven and Triangle is one, giving us three digits to the code already.

We then need to work out how these two symbols equal their corresponding numbers. The subway map is the key, telling us exactly how each symbol translates to a digit to the padlock code. The Square over Blue Lake is a stop for line four and three. Adding these together makes seven. Sol on line one doesn’t overlap with another, meaning this matches up with the first clue that Triangle is zero.

Looking at this pattern, we only need to work out what number the purple line is. Seeing that we have line one, three, and four, all we’re missing is the second line (purple). This means that Quartz Terminal (Cross) is five as it sits on line two and three, and Silver Spring (Circle) is six. Each symbol and their digits are:

  • Square: Seven
  • Triangle: One
  • Circle: Six
  • Cross: Five

You can now go back to the Conductor door, insert the Padlock Mechanism, and roll the dial to input the code: 7 1 6 5 1. You will get the Clever achievement and leave the train, where the terror truly begins.
