How to get water in The Forever Winter

Guns and ammo aren't the only essentials you'll need to survive.

The Forever Winter is all about looting useful items and valuable treasures to ensure survival, but upgrading weapons and gunning down fractions isn’t the only aim of the game. The Scav’s basic needs have to be met as well, including finding a shelter, food sources, and water.

There are only a handful of areas to retrieve water in The Forever Winter, which makes sense since supplies are limited in a post-apocalyptic world. Players can harvest water from completing quests, raiding bunkers, and occasionally by looting supply crates and fallen enemies. In addition, water harvesting locations can be added to the Water Management Station at your base for easier accessibility during return trips.

Even if you aren’t actively logged into The Forever Winter, many resources will still be consumed in your absence, so that’s just something to bear in mind going forward. If you don’t stock up on enough water and use it wisely, you’ll run out.

Places to find water in The Forever Winter

Aside from quests and looting, there are a few places where water has a higher chance of spawning: The Cemetery in Scorched Enclave and the Elevator in the Mech Trenches.

For a chance at finding some water, head over to the Cemetery spawn point in the Scorched Enclave. When you arrive there, you’ll see a structure made out of wood with a glowing light on top. You’ll need to employ some stealth tactics to quickly dip inside the tower and retrieve the water, then make a run for it to avoid being overwhelmed with enemies.

When you’re inside the tower, climb up and go inside, and there should be a water barrel immediately in view. If not, then keep to the left and find the wall with the words “S-14F” graffitied on it, and there’s a chance of a water barrel spawning there instead.

If there’s still no water to be found, there’s one more place you can check. Head toward the central area of the Cemetery and try to scout out a water barrel there.

The Elevator area in the Mech Trenches is another spot in The Forever Winter that has a high chance of spawning a water barrel. In order to find it, you’ll need to head straight from the waypoint until you come across a set of stairs. Go up the stairs and open the door on your left, then follow the passageway down the stairs and keep to your right down a straight corridor.

Eventually, you’ll come across a well-lit area full of body bags. Keep going and scan the area for both a loot crate and a water barrel—they should be nearby.

Once you’ve been extracted, the water barrels will be placed in your stash at the Innard. Be sure to head to the Water Management Station to add them to your stock.
