Psyonix is ramping up its Rocket League esports investment for 2017. Working off the success of its first two seasons of the Rocket League Championship Series, Psyonix has announced it will put more than $2.5 million into Rocket League esports this year.

That means more than $1 million in total prize pools—which includes $300,000 for the RLCS—and onsite events at major gaming conventions like PAX and South by South West. Psyonix is also planning on expanding its funding for community-run tournaments, as well as weekly tournaments across Europe, North America, Oceania, South America, and elsewhere. Beyond that, a “true” collegiate Rocket League esports program is expected to be rolling out in 2017, expanding on the Rocket League Collegiate Spring Showdown that ran last year.

Rocket League players on the Xbox One can also expect a new series of tournaments specifically for them, which aligns with Psyonix’s mission of keeping Rocket League esports for everyone—not just top tier talent. Charity tournaments, too, are part of Psyonix’s expanded esports plan.

In-game features and enhancements for Rocket League will also be implemented this year, though details have not yet been released. The esports hub on the Rocket League website itself will be remodeled to include all of this information, keeping players and fans up-to-date with everything going on in the scene.

Growth in Rocket League esports is the big goal, outpacing 2016 in its success. More details on all of these plans are expected in the “coming weeks,” Psyonix said.
