Major Bloodborne emulator breakthrough sees the game running at 60 fps on PC

This marks another milestone in the quickly developing PS4 emulator.

Bloodborne. Just mentioning it sends shockwaves through the room but also calls for tears to flow as Sony’s apparent ignorance of it leaves many feeling somber. However, though prospects of a remake or remaster are poor, emulation might be the solution, and Bloodborne now runs at 60 fps on the PC.

The stellar footage was shared by YouTuber Yahfz today, Aug. 19, who experimented with the ShadPS4 emulator, whose sole purpose appears to be running Bloodborne by any means necessary. In the video, Yahfz controls their character throughout the Hunter’s Dream area, swings their mighty hammer, and generally walks about. While there’s no sound but ambiance, and the textures aren’t rendering fully, the fact that the game is even running at such a pace is mind-boggling.

The YouTuber explained in the comments that they used the 720p patch and ran the game windowed to achieve this performance, though with the right settings, they believe it would run at 1080p just as well. They also used the best of the best in terms of hardware, sporting a behemoth 4090 and 13900KS combination, and 32 gigs of RAM to boot. Emulation has always been a taxing process and requires a solid PC build to achieve solid results, though it appears that PS4 emulation, in particular, will need quite a bit more than what we’re used to.

It’s safe to say that Bloodborne is likely the No. 1 driving force behind the progress of PS4 emulation. The console launched over a decade ago, in 2013, and we still don’t have a proper emulator to play its titles on the PC platform (though Sony has been making strides to port its exclusives to Gaben’s world). With the speed of its progress, we might see Bloodborne running fully soon—and that will be a day for the history books.
