Fans excited about the release of Dune Awakening were given a look at gameplay today during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live—as well as news on the title’s release window.
Dune Awakening is a survival MMO set on the planet Arrakis, with players beginning life as a stranded prisoner before building their way up in powerful guilds and harnessing new technology.
The trailer showed plenty of what players can expect in Dune Awakening, including Ornithopters, detailed building mechanics, and the all-important battle for Spice—which is where players can truly show their strength.
In the battle shown, a fierce fight took center stage but the highlight was the end, where a player used a piece of equipment to summon a Sand Worm to turn the tide.
The big news is that Dune Awakening will enter early access on PC in “early 2025,” with releases on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S to follow—although no details were revealed on when exactly the game will come to console.
Although the trailer highlighted the powerful and dangerous technology players can have at their disposal, it will take time and effort to get there. To begin with, it’s not other players or dangerous creatures you have to worry about—it’s the scorching sun and the desert sands.
Extracting resources and materials from enemies you defeat is vital, including the important, albeit quite disturbing, practice of extracting water from the blood of those you kill.
Dune Awakening will be just one of the huge games due to debut in 2025, along with the likes of Grand Theft Auto 6, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Borderlands 4—the latter of which was announced during the same presentation as the Dune Awakening gameplay.
