Epic Games’ developer update outlines shotgun and storm circle changes in Fortnite

These changes went live when the new season launched yesterday.

Epic Games released a new developer update for Fortnite: Battle Royale earlier today to give an inside perspective on some of the changes to the popular game.

The video essentially reiterates the patch notes from yesterday’s update in which season five went live in Fortnite.

In particular, the dev update focuses on changes to shotguns and the final storm circles, as well as how players can rank up their favorite progressive outfits.

In an effort to make shotguns “a little bit more consistent,” Epic updated the spread on the pellets inside the aim reticle so “they’ll always shoot in the same dispersion.” Red dots in the aim reticle will now show players how many pellets they hit opponents with. Epic also added a short delay after firing a shotgun if you’re switching to another shotgun in order to nerf the popular “double pump” strategy.

The Suppressed Submachine Gun has also been nerfed. Epic noticed that it was being picked over Assault Rifles for long-range engagements, so the developer adjusted the falloff damage on this SMG.

As you may have noticed if you’ve played Fortnite since the new update went live yesterday, the final storm circles are a bit less predictable. The center of circles seven, eight, and nine can now go in random directions—even back into the storm itself. “This is to encourage dynamic and exciting gameplay for the matches that do reach that length,” Epic said.

Epic will now allow players to rank up and upgrade their progressive outfits even after the season ends. And Fortnite fans also got a quick, comedic look at how Epic recorded sound effects for the new All Terrain Kart in-game vehicle.
