Destiny 2’s development is chugging along despite The Final Shape’s conclusion and turmoil at Bungie, and the studio is looking to what’s next by teasing a big quality-of-life upgrade.
The Pathfinder system, a new way for players to grind out ritual activities and earn rewards each week, was introduced with The Final Shape expansion in June. It wasn’t too popular with players from the get-go, and after some slight tweaks, it still wasn’t well received.
But starting in Destiny’s Episode Two: Revenant, an overhaul of Pathfinder will give players more agency in how they earn their rewards on any given week. Bungie revealed the news in a new post on Twitter/X today, Aug. 26, that Pathfinder will be getting three different pathways.
The Pathfinder ritual will now be split into Vanguard, Gambit, and Crucible activities, giving players the decision between which playlist they’re looking to grind to earn the weekly rewards, including pinnacle level items and more.
On each pathway, there are mode-specific nodes to unlock by finishing a variety of challenges. There are some generic nodes to complete, too, so it won’t be too restrictive and you can choose which one to grind for depending on which route offers the fastest way to the rewards.
“Each card will have some generic objectives that can be completed in other activities – if you look closely at the picture, you can see the non-specific nodes in a few spots,” Bungie clarified, so that will theoretically offer yet another option or choice for players to decide on which path they choose to take on any given week.
Act Three of Episode One: Echoes begins tomorrow, Aug. 27, which means Episode Two: Revenant will likely begin on Oct. 8 if Bungie sticks with the six-week-long schedule for each Act.
