Deadlock leaks reveal 8 new heroes, NPCs, class system, and more

There's plenty of new stuff coming to Deadlock.

Valve’s upcoming MOBA shooter Deadlock looks set for a huge expansion, with recent data mining and insider leaks pointing toward major new features.

Among the biggest revelations are at least eight new heroes in development, a structured class system to guide beginners, and multiple fresh game modes designed to broaden the experience beyond its current closed alpha. These additions suggest Valve is preparing the groundwork for a much larger rollout, ensuring the game appeals to both casual and competitive audiences.

According to the leaks, Deadlock will soon introduce three separate game modes currently in active development. While exact details remain under wraps, this direction signals Valve’s intention to create a multi-layered experience rather than a one-dimensional MOBA shooter.

Such variety could include casual variants, highly competitive formats, or even entirely new gameplay twists, much like Valve’s approach in past titles that catered to different skill levels and preferences.

One of the standout features under development is a class system designed for newcomers. This system won’t change hero mechanics or abilities but instead helps categorize characters into clear, easy-to-understand groups.

For players new to MOBAs, this is a significant step forward, removing early confusion while maintaining the depth veterans expect. Reports suggest the class system may be tested earlier than other features, underlining Valve’s focus on accessibility and smoother onboarding.

Another major addition on the horizon is a formal draft system, expected to arrive after the upcoming “Split” update. Drafting phases are a cornerstone of competitive MOBAs, allowing teams to strategically ban and pick heroes. Its inclusion strongly indicates Valve’s intent to build Deadlock into a serious esports contender rather than just a casual-friendly game.

For many fans, however, the most exciting part of the leaks is the confirmation of at least eight new heroes. Four of them are already nearing completion, potentially expanding Deadlock’s roster beyond the current 21 heroes sooner than expected.

Previous data mines hinted at names like Boho, Bookworm, Frank, and Priest, but Valve has yet to confirm which ones will launch first. A steady release of new heroes during the alpha could give the game the depth it needs before a wider release.

The leaks also mention other major systems coming in the next two updates, including a long-term achievement system, a built-in news hub for updates and community highlights, and even new NPCs and environments that could expand gameplay beyond traditional lanes. These features point toward a more dynamic ecosystem that encourages engagement outside of just winning or losing matches.

Overall, these leaks outline an ambitious vision for the future. Valve is clearly investing in both new-player accessibility and competitive depth, ensuring the game evolves into a long-term platform with frequent content drops, diverse gameplay modes, and a rapidly expanding hero roster. For a title still in closed alpha, Deadlock already feels like Valve is preparing for a much bigger stage, like they have often done in the past with titles like Counter-Strike and Dota 2.
