How to get best-in-slot gear for level 90 in Final Fantasy XIV

Leave no chance to your foes.

The farm journey doesn’t end when players reach the new maximum level in Final Fantasy XIV, which was raised from 80 to 90 in the Endwalker expansion.

After that, you’ll want to earn the best gear possible, called best-in-slot (BiS), to maximize your chances in case you want to test out high-end content.

Here’s the best gear you get can on your combat jobs after Patch 6.3, which introduced new Alliance Raid gear.

Best-in-slot gear for level 90 in Final Fantasy XIV and how to get it

Tomestones of Astronomy and Savage raids

The maximum item level introduced with Patch 6.3 is 630. There’s only one way to earn 630 iLvl gear and it’ll require a lot of time and skill.

It can only be earned by augmenting iLvl 620 Lunar Envoy gear pieces using materials rewarded when completing Abyssos’ Savage raids. To unlock those duties, you can check out our guide.

The Allagan Tomestones of Causality’s gear pieces can be earned by completing level 90 duties, but they are weekly capped, so you’ll have to be patient to get your full best-in-slot gear. You’ll be able to buy up to two pieces every month to Cihanti (Radz-at-Han, X: 10.8, Y: 10.3) if you cap them every week.

They’re also used to get Manderville’s Relic weapons. Those aren’t BiS yet, though (ilvl 615), so if you’re trying to get the best gear, it’s better to buy the Lunar Envoy set first.

Crafting and Normal raids

In the meantime, you can earn 610 iLvl gear using two different methods. You can either break the bank and buy them on the Market Board or get the Purgatory set (which can be traded in the same way as Limbo gear pieces).

More level 90 crafting gear items were released recently and require some rare materials, on top of being Master X recipes, they’ll come at a hefty price: around a million gil for a whole set. It’s called Rinascita. Those prices will fall over time, however. It can be worth leveling up a crafting job if you need high gear right away but don’t have enough money to buy it.

Earning a full Purgatory set will take less time than before since the weekly cap was removed by a previous update. You can get them by completing Normal Pandaemonium Abyssos raids.

Extreme Trials

Although Extreme Trials give strong weapons, it’s not worth the effort now that the first version of Manderville’s Relic Weapons has joined the game. Those weapons have the same strength as the last Extreme Trial’s (Storm’s Crown).

What about materia?

Materia are stats enhancements that can be melded into your gear. Each piece of gear features a determined number of materia slots. They’re earned by completing main scenario quests, can be bought on the Market Board, or traded using certain types of cluster. When you level up, the tier of materia you can meld into your gear gradually increases.

Endwalker introduced two new levels of materia, IX and X, for level 90 jobs. It’s not recommended, however, to spend them right away. They aren’t easy to get in large quantities and you’ll likely change your gear in a few weeks, so it can be a good idea and cheaper option to first meld VII and VIII materia, earned via Shadowbringers content.

The best materia for your job depends on your style. Since job changes have recently introduced a new meta in Endwalker and Savage raids aren’t yet released, there’s still much uncertainty on what materia is the absolute best for each class.

If you play a job that uses mana and you often run out of it, take Piety materia. Otherwise, Critical Hit, Determination, and Direct Hit are always reliable choices, even for healing and tanking jobs.
