Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 ‘dev error 5476’ explanation and fixes

Wait, weren't we over this error?

Most Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone players will be familiar with the “dev error 5476.” This minor annoyance has been around since the days of Black Ops Cold War’s release and was at one point a distant memory.

You thought it was gone? Oh my, you would be so wrong.

The “dev error 5476” is back in action and it means business. This error is clearly a fan of the CoD franchise as it keeps appearing in each iteration of the game. It previously viciously attacked Warzone lobbies and has made its way back onto the scene. The error’s origins are unknown, but it looks to be about server-sided instabilities regarding player profiles.

Infinity Ward or Activision haven’t released any information regarding the error, but there are a couple of homemade, community-tested solutions you can try out to fix the problem by yourself. The issue should be resolved in a couple of days with a fix by Infinity Ward, but you can still get your daily dose of CoD before having to wait.

Here’s how you can fix the “dev error 5476” in Warzone and Modern Warfare.

The error pops its head up after most updates and is frankly a pain in the neck. The first thing you should do is check to see if Warzone 2 or MW2 is up to date.

To do this:

  • Go to the Battle.net client
  • Click on Modern Warfare 2 or Warzone 2
  • Look down to the bottom left of the client and next to play you’ll see a cog
  • Click on the cog and see if the “Check for Updates” prompt is clickable
  • If it is, update your game

You might think this is a joke, but another fix for this error is simply changing your calling card and emblem to something else. If yours is set to “randomized,” change it now.

To do this, you’ll need to launch Modern Warfare 2 and navigate to multiplayer, barracks, customization, then identity.

Once you’re there, choose calling cards and pick one of them. Don’t select the option to use one at random since it could be a cause for “dev error 5476.” Once this is done, change up your emblem and hop back into the battlefield.

If changing your emblem and calling card doesn’t do the trick for you, try exiting the game and resetting your router before giving it another go. If this doesn’t work for you, try reinstalling whichever game the error is popping up in. It is the last resort, but this tends to work the majority of the time.

Make sure you’re checking community forums, as you’ll see alternate fixes that could be the way to stop this error once and for all. Keep an eye on Infinity Ward on Twitter as well since the developer tends to update fans regarding known errors through social media.
