Dragon’s Dogma 2: Should you sell Onyx, Jasper, and Jewels?

But what if I need them later?

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, every item has a role to play, whether it’s for alchemy or crafting. The game lets you use your Pawns as mules to avoid over-encumbrance. Still, you won’t be hoarding items for long before your need for gold comes knocking on your inventory’s door.

Perhaps you spot a shiny armor at a local vendor or felt the need to fix your character’s terrible haircut for 10,000 gold. Now that you remember, a few Jewels sitting at the bottom of your pack could fetch a decent sum. But is it safe to sell Onyx, Jasper, and other valuables in Dragon’s Dogma 2? Here’s everything you need to know about the jewels.

What should you do with Onyx, Jasper, and Tiger Eye in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

The best thing you can do with Onyx, Jasper, Tiger Eyes, and other Jewels in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is sell them to merchants and vendors for gold or give them to NPCs to raise affinity levels. Both options have pros and cons, but the best depends on your playthrough and preferences.

Jewels are a great item to sell in Dragon’s Dogma 2. They typically cough up a decent amount of gold, and if you read the description for each Jewel, you can figure out where they are scarcely found to get more money in return. For example, Onyx’s description says it’s “scarcely seen in Vernworth.” This means you can sell it in any shop in Vernworth, where it’s rare, for a higher price. I sold it in Roderick’s Smithy for 2,400 Gold and made a little more money than I would have selling it to a merchant outside of Vernworth.

So, if you need gold, whether to buy better weapons or gear, selling Jewels can be an easy way to fill your pockets, as they don’t have any other use in the game besides gifting, and you don’t need Onyx, Jasper, or any other Jewel to enhance a weapon or armor piece.

Alternatively, you can give Jasper, Onyx, and other Jewels to NPCs to increase your affinity and romance them. For instance, Onyx, Jasper, and Tiger Eye grant 50 points of favor when gifted to an NPC in Dragon’s Dogma 2. So, if wooing the named NPCs is an activity you’re interested in, then gifting Jewels is a great way to do so.

It’s up to you to decide whether to sell or gift the Jewels. I always sell the Jewels if they’re scarce in a specific place because it means more gold in my pocket for better items. The rest I either gift to specific named NPCs, like the innkeeper in Sacred Arbor, because they can give epic rewards, or I save for a rainy day.

How to get Onyx in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Onyx may be a valuable item, but it has a chance of dropping from several monsters, including Goblins, Harpies, and Knackers, all of which are found on the outskirts of Vernworth.

It can also be found on rare chests in mines, like the Trevo Mine, and rewarded for completing quests such as:

  • A Beggar’s Tale (only if you give the Beggar’s Garb to Hilda)
  • Masked Correspondance

As Onyx is considered scarce in Vermund, sell it to vendors in Vernworth to get 2,400 Gold. If you sell Onyx outside of Vermund, you will only get 800 Gold.

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, you can find Jasper on chests in the open or receive it as a reward for completing side quests such as:

  • Shadowed Prayers
  • A Candle in the Wind (you must oppose the Empress to get Jasper)
  • Slight chance of dropping from the Succubus near Dragonsbreath Towers.

For those interested in making more gold, Jasper is considered “scarce” in Battahl. So, sell this item to vendors in Bakbattahl to get 2,800 Gold. You will only get 800 Gold if you sell this outside of Battahl.

How to get Tiger Eye in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Unfortunately, you can only get Tiger Eyes from Monster Drops in Dragon’s Dogma 2, meaning you can’t get it as a reward for completing certain quests. You must defeat Choppers on the outskirts of Vernworth (they often spawn in areas like Guerco Mountain Road) and Gore Harpies in Dragon’s Dogma 2 for a chance to get Tiger Eyes.

You can sell Tiger’s Eye in The Sacred Arbor, the Elf village, to get 2,700 Gold, as it’s considered scarce. You will only get 900 Gold by selling it outside Sacred Arbor.

Gifting Onyx, Jasper, and Tiger Eye to NPCs

Gifting is a great way to increase your affinity with a named NPC. You can do so by interacting with an NPC and giving them a liked gift, like Onyx, Jasper, Tiger Eye, or any other Jewel. Follow these four steps to gift a Jewel in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

  1. Approach and interact with an NPC.
  2. Select the “Give Gift” option.
  3. Choose your Jewel, like Onyx, Jasper, or Tiger Eye.
  4. Select the “Confirm” option.

It’s as easy as that. You will know if the NPC approves of the item, if their dialogue is positive, or if they’re overly excited, meaning they’ll blush. If you’re unsure where to check an NPCs favorite gifts, you can do so in the Logbook, which can be accessed by opening the paused menu, selecting History, NPC Logbook, and then finding the “Likes” section of that NPCs tab.

Tip:

Onyx, Jasper, and Tiger eye fall under the “Interesting” category for items. So, if an NPC likes something Interesting, you can gift them these three Jewels.

Although getting these Jewels can be tricky, this is everything you need to know about when to sell or gift Tiger Eye, Jasper, and Onyx in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and how to do it.
