Helldivers 2: Unknown error explained

The Helldivers 2 unknown error is simply explained as a server error. Specifically, it is when the servers are down. This comes as no surprise when the game is undergoing server maintenance or initiating a large update. Unlike other error codes that can be bypassed by fiddling around with your device settings, restarting the game, or patiently waiting out the queues, the unknown error doesn’t have a set fix.

This is because the unknown error is caused by currently broken-down servers as a result of either full capacity or an undergoing update. The unknown error first hit Helldivers on March 7, later bothering players once more on March 8 and 9. The explanation this time around? Helldivers were filling the servers to unlock and try out the new Patriotic Exosuit.

Excited players after the March 8 update filled servers and forced the rest of us to watch the satirical public service announcement over and over again just to see the unknown error plague our screens, with no choice but to wait until the servers emptied out again.

The intro was unskippable, with the loading icon spinning round and round. Luckily, the servers are fixed once again, as seen in the Helldivers 2 official Discord server. The server backend got flooded by Helldivers looking to purchase the Exosuit as soon as it launched. Arrowhead continued to work on stabilizing the servers, showcasing the traffic spikes in the hd2-announcements channel that caused the unknown error in Helldivers 2.

No, you can’t fix the unknown error for good in Helldivers 2. Server outages trigger this error, meaning only Arrowhead can actually roll out a permanent fix. Helldivers 2 is in and out of stability and will continuously face the unknown error when they add new content that the community is hyped about.

The unknown error isn’t the only server-related error in the game since many other annoyances pop up as the servers continue to fill. While the concurrent player count has increased from 250,000 to 700,000, we can expect server capacity issues for all future and massive updates.

Always expect errors to occur in Helldivers 2, where the demand for quality is at an all-time high. You may get stuck looking at your Super Destroyer, find that you can’t send friend requests, your Helldiver is defrosting, or that there’s a black screen on launch. So many problems and not a ton of solutions. But Helldivers 2 will have a happy community so long as Arrowhead continues to improve its servers.
