Like stud muffins – NYT Mini Crossword answer

Still struggling? The answer to six across in the April 14 NYT Mini Crossword is “HUNKY.”

A stud muffin is how you might describe a sexually attractive man with muscles. It’s usually used in a playful way. Hunky pretty much falls into the same boat. A hunk or a hunky man is typically big, muscly, and attractive—basically Arnold Schwarzenegger in his heyday. You probably wouldn’t describe a woman as hunky or a stud muffin unless they were a bodybuilder, but even then it doesn’t really sound right.

I have no idea where “stud muffin” came from, but it apparently dates as far back as 1976. It’s a mystery. A big sexy mystery—my favorite kind.
