Riot to investigate LCS match for unsportsmanlike behavior

Alliance improved on their first place position in week 10 of the League Championship Series earlier today after taking down the Copenhagen Wolves in a decisive match. It was more than a just a strong showing, however: Alliance completely dominated the Wolves, ending the game in 28 minutes with a kill score of 29-2 and a 24,000 gold lead.

The game was going so well for Alliance, four of the team’s players built items that rarely appear in the LCS. Henrik “Froggen” Hansen and Ilyas “Shook” Hartsema built Mejai’s Soulstealer, an item that increases in power as you get more kills. Erik “Tabzz” Helvert and Mike “Wickd” Petersen both bought Sword of the Occult, which also increases in power as you get more kills. Both items help players who are already winning, win even harder.

Toward the end of the match, Alliance went out of their way to snag more kills. It’s unclear if they were padding their stats, or trying to rub in the loss to Copenhagen Wolves. Now, Copenhagen Wolves toplaner Joey ‘YoungBuck” Steltenpool calls their actions “bad mannered.”

The stack items alone wasn’t BM guys, intentionally prolonging the game and trying to get stacks/fantasy points is BM [1/2]

Steltenpool went on to say that a Riot Games employee would be investigating the match for unsportsmanlike behavior.

A Rioter walked up to one of us after the game and said they’ll investigate the game so we weren’t alone in thinking it was unsportsmanlike

Hansen responded to the accusations, saying the decision to build the item was purely for its cost efficiency.

i don’t get how it’s BM if it’s litterally the most cost effecient items in the game at that point. else dissable the item in the game #LCS

On July 23, challenger team H2K were fined $300 by Riot Games for “unsportsmanlike behavior.” Riot claimed that H2K intentionally dragged out the game in addition to building ineffective items. Riot described their actions as “blatantly disrespectful” in its ruling.
