European League of Legends star Rekkles might be returning to the World Championship stage, but not in a role anyone would expect. The 27-year-old support is reportedly joining T1 at Worlds 2024 as a substitute player, marking his seventh appearance at the event throughout his storied career.
According to the newly updated LoL Esports Crystal Ball page, the iconic LEC superstar will be joining T1 after spending the last year with the organization’s Academy team in the Challengers League. He will be standing behind Keria as a sub support player at Worlds 2024, allowing the team to swap him in if needed. Barring any emergencies or sudden strategy changes, however, it’s highly doubtful that Rekkles sees stage time.
After his departure from G2 Esports in 2021, Rekkles has made the rounds with a handful of different organizations, including Karmine Corp and Fnatic. His latest stint, however, was with T1’s Academy team, playing alongside other prospects like mid laner Poby and AD carry Smash.
The team didn’t play relatively well though, finishing in ninth place during the Spring Split and barely making the playoffs in the summer. However, Rekkles still played with the support of a raving fanbase and was able to compete with one of the most iconic organizations in League history.
This time, he’ll even have a chance to finally collect a Summoner’s Cup, if T1 manages to swipe the win away from the other competitors. The legendary team squeaked into the Worlds conversation after finally securing Korea’s last seed in the Regional Qualifiers. They finished fourth during the 2024 Summer Split regular season, and dropped out of the playoffs after a disappointing loss to Hanwha Life Esports.
Afterward, T1 lost to Dplus KIA in the first round of the Regional Qualifiers, causing many fans to wonder whether the defending champions were going to miss out on protecting their throne in Europe. Luckily for them, the roster managed to claw their way to Worlds with a gritty five-game series against KT Rolster for the fourth and final slot at the tournament.
