With one week left in the Summer Split’s regular season, MVP jungler Kim “Yondu” Kyu-seok has continued his yearly tradition of picking Amumu against Gen.G earlier today.

A pick synonymous with Yondu, Amumu is a champion beloved by the MVP jungler. Unlike other professional player’s pocket picks though, Yondu’s Amumu is kept locked up since the champion is largely considered to be quite weak in its current state. But ever since Yondu made his LCK debut in 2016, he’s made sure to play Amumu at least once a year, though the decision almost always results in a loss. Today was no different.

Yondu started out his Amumu game as well as any Amumu player could have hoped. Yondu found an early lead through in-lane ganks, taking advantage of Gen.G jungler Kang “Ambition” Chan-yong’s passivity.

But with his two solo lanes losing badly, there was little Yondu could do. Yondu tried to find multi-man stuns with his ultimate, but Gen.G were prepared for his engages. Equipped with items like stopwatch and the cleanse summoner spell, Gen.G’s players easily shredded through Yondu whenever the MVP jungler tried to engage with Amumu’s bandage toss, thus rendering the pick useless.

The only player within the five major regions to pick Amumu in the last three years, Yondu’s record with the sad mummy drops further to 1-3 after today’s loss to Gen.G. Despite the negative record though, don’t expect Yondu to give up his Amumu. Hopefully at some point next year we’ll get to see Yondu continue the tradition, and once again try and make Amumu work on the LCK stage.

Yondu and MVP will close out their LCK 2018 Summer Split on Aug. 9, when they face KT Rolster in the final match of the regular season.
