The PlayStation 5 Pro was finally revealed in a technical presentation by Sony, and it packs a powerful punch with a heavy price tag to take your gaming experience to a whole new level.
With any new upcoming gaming consoles like the highly-anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro, gamers should always look for the nitty-gritty of the technical specs to understand how they fare against the rest of the competition, and if the performance truly warrants the price point. The case is no different for Sony’s upcoming console and you can read our explanation to get informed about the new things being added to the pro version of the PS5.Â
Here’s everything you need to know about the technical details for the upcoming PS5 Pro launching later this year.
All the new PS5 Pro specs, listed
While there have been quite a few changes in the upcoming PS5 Pro compared to the base model, here are the three main features that stand out:
Upgraded GPU
Just like PS4’s pro successor, the PS5 Pro is also upgrading its GPU to have 67 percent more compute units than the current PS5 console, and also has 28 percent faster memory. While these might seem like a small number of tweaks to the base PS5, Sony says they enable up to 45 percent faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother for gamers to enjoy their favorite titles without any restrictions. The extra graphical processing will add extra details to cinematic quality in games and improve lighting and visual effects.Â
Advanced ray tracing
If you thought Sony was done with ray tracing after PS5’s launch, you’d be wrong. PS5 Pro gets its hands on advanced ray tracing, which provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. The technology allows light rays to be cast two to three times faster than the current PS5 console, making reflections and shadows look crisper. The change will drastically affect the visual quality of games like Gran Turismo, Hogwarts Legacy, and many more.Â
AI-Driven Upscaling
AI has proliferated in many sectors of the gaming industry, and it seems Sony is also not shying away from its use to improve performance. They are introducing the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, which is AI-driven upscaling used to produce super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail into every shot. However, this is not native resolution, so it just boosts the existing pixels to make them more clear and vivid to the human eyes.
The PS5 Pro console comes with a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller, and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed on the console. It also supports Wi-Fi 7, the latest wireless technology, VRR, and 8K gaming. It is important to keep in mind that the PS5 Pro is currently available as a disc-less console, but you can purchase the disc drive and vertical stand separately.Â
As the PS5’s height and width are the same, you can also use your existing stand for the pro version. PS5 Pro will be released on Nov. 7 and preorders will start on Sept. 26.Â
