SK Telecom T1 posted a cryptic teaser to their Facebook page earlier today, and fans have been trying to figure out what it means.
The post, which simply states that “another legend begins,” could mean a lot of things. The second part of the post explains how to enter the organization’s most recent giveaway, which admittedly is a lot less exciting, but we don’t think that was meant to be the focus of the post anyway.
SKT is a world-class esports organization. It’s mostly known for its success in League of Legends, where its teams have won the World Championship three times, and StarCraft, the organization’s first game—it sponsored 4 Union in 2004 to kick off its journey in esports. Some fans of the org have gone full tinfoil-hat-mode to speculate on what this teaser could mean.
There are some fans from particular games, like League, who claim this means a former player might be coming back. For instance, one of the most popular suggestions on Reddit and in the Facebook post itself is that former League team top laner Jang “MaRin” Gyeong-hwan could be returning, although that doesn’t make much sense. MaRin is currently on Topsports Gaming in the LPL, and if he were returning, we’d think the language would be a little bit different in the teaser.
Other fans are only concerned with the giveaway, begging SKT to send them a new jersey.
More realistically, though, this post is likely teasing the org’s new PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds team, which was confirmed earlier this year. It’s possible that this teaser is something as simple as a new uniform, but to us, “another legend” would be a new team alongside the already-legendary League team.
Either way, SKT stated that the news will be revealed on July 30, which is in a mere few days.
