RuneScape: Dragonwilds was shadowdropped on Steam during a dedicated livestream hosted by Jagex. This is the studio’s take on the survival genre, with the rich world of RuneScape serving as the backdrop. Despite minimal marketing, it’s doing quite well on Steam, but what about consoles?
Here is everything we know about the Xbox Series S|X and PlayStation 5 release of RuneScape: Dragonwilds.
What we know about the RuneScape: Dragonwilds console release
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is planned for consoles and should come out after the title leaves early access next year.
During an interview with Jake Lucky, one of the lead community managers at Jagex, Mod Doom, confirmed this. They emphasized that the console release is one of the final goals, along with crossplay functionality across all platforms.
Currently, Jagex is targeting a Winter 2026 release for the full version of RuneScape: Dragonwilds. This aligns with the Steam page, which mentions plans to launch version 1.0 by early 2026. It’s fair to assume that 2026 will be the release year, though the exact month may shift based on feedback during the early access period.

This is also normal for many other early access titles, and we don’t see unfinished games on PS5 or Xbox Series S|X. You might see a few “preview” builds here and there, but most developers want to use this time to iron out issues, listen to feedback, and evolve the game to its best possible state before releasing it on consoles.
Getting feedback and applying hotfixes on practically a daily basis isn’t that easy on consoles, so developers opt for keeping the game on PC while it’s in active development.
For instance, Enshrouded, one of the biggest survival RPGs in early access on Steam, is still not available on consoles even after several major updates. This is because the full release is planned for sometime this year, coinciding with the console version’s release.
Can you wishlist RuneScape: Dragonwilds on consoles?
As of writing, there are no links for RuneScape: Dragonwilds on PlayStation Store or the Microsoft Store. We expect these to pop up near the release of the full version.
Considering this is an Unreal Engine 5 release, the Xbox Series S|X and PS5 are safe bets. However, by the time this is out, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be one of the mainstream consoles, and given its technical specifications and support for NVIDIA DLSS, I don’t see why RuneScape: Dragonwilds wouldn’t be on it as well.
Console users will have to wait a while before they can enjoy RuneScape: Dragonwilds, but they can take comfort in receiving the most complete and polished version of the release. Sometime in 2026 is a safe bet.
