Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake is being remade from the ground up for modern-day systems on Koei Tecmo’s proprietary Katana Engine. It features gorgeous visuals, free-flow camera and character movements, and enhanced audio design.

Character models for Amakura Twins are a stark departure from the original, with meticulously refined textures for skin and clothing to make them more realistic. Likewise, the Minakami Village has been reimagined with modern-day light and shadow effects to create a more hauntingly beautiful and atmospheric setting.

Unlike the original game, Mio, the protagonist, can hold her sister’s hand to restore her health and spirit power. Mayu can also get into danger and require help, which adds an extra layer of gameplay and narrative to the remake.

Camera Obscura, Fatal Frame’s unique gameplay tool that lets you capture and banish evil ghosts and spirits, has evolved as well. New functions such as focus, zoom, and switching filters add new ways to use the camera during combat and exploration.

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake standard and digital deluxe editions are now available to pre-order on all storefronts with a host of pre-order and early purchase bonuses.
