Fortnite: Battle Royale players have been trying to figure out the meaning behind the huge cracks in the sky since the highly-anticipated rocket launch on June 30.

The cracks seem to be somehow connected to the portals or rifts found across the map—but they might also be providing fans with clues about potential changes to the Fortnite map in season five.

A Reddit user posted a screengrab of what appears to be sand falling out of one of the big cracks in the sky. This could have many different meanings, however—if it means anything at all to begin with.

For starters, this could just be a glitch—we went into a few games and were unable to see the sand for ourselves. If it’s not a glitch or an unintended feature, then it could be hinting at something Epic Games has planned down the road.

Many rumors pointed toward a historical theme in season five, so Fortnite fans were expecting some objects or areas from different time periods. We’ve already seen Easter Island statues and Viking Village added in the early stages of season five—and Epic could throw in more historical locations later this year.

Some fans believe the sand falling from the sky could be hinting at an Egyptian theme or area being introduced to the game in season five. This is just speculation at this time, however—for all we know, the sand could just be coming through the portals or rifts located in the new desert area.

Keep your eyes on the sky in Fortnite, though—even if this sand is meaningless, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Epic use the cracks to relay messages or hints to fans.
