With an in-game message, Epic has indicated it will be adding a new SMG to Fortnite: Battle Royale. The weapon, according to the brief teaser message, has a “fast rate of fire and improved mobility.”

This will be the fourth weapon in the submachine gun category, joining the Tactical Submachine Gun, Supressed Submachine Gun, and the recently-added Drum Gun—the Drum Gun is considered a SMG but uses medium bullets, the common ammo of assault rifles.

Since the double-shotgun meta’s departure, some players have turned to submachine guns as their weapon of choice to go along with the shotgun due to its quick fire rate and usefulness in close quarters. The upcoming SMG looks to have an even quicker fire rate, which may make it instantly popular among players.

Titled simply as Submachine Gun and from its appearance in the teaser, it seems this weapon will be very similar to the Supressed Submachine Gun, except it would obviously not have the suppressor.

Epic revealed its v5.0 content update would be dropping at 7am CT tomorrow, July 17. Some speculate the SMG will be a part of that update since Epic has routinely added things in the days following its original teaser.
