More mysterious occurrences have been found in season five of Fortnite: Battle Royale.

Lightning bolts are being shot out of a rift in the desert area between Paradise Palms and Fatal Fields. The odd purple bolt seems to be a random event that strikes the ground at any given moment, with not much time for reaction from players.

In one particular video by TheSquatingDog, one of the bolts can be seen striking a rock surrounded by cacti. Another picture found by Fortnite Insider shows that the point of impact from the bolt leaves a burn mark on the map where it hits.

These findings could be connected to the big rift in the sky, which is actually getting smaller now about halfway into season five. Initially, it spanned about half of the map’s sky, with branches of the rift hinting that the map is covered by something.
