Destiny Rising Fishing guide: Bait, fishing spots, rewards, and more

There's always fishing.

Destiny: Rising offers a couple of casual activities to do in between farming Artifacts or doing strikes. There’s a card game, Sparrow racing, and, of course, fishing. Unlike other casual activities, fishing is available all the time, and there are a number of rewards you can earn from it.

This is a complete guide on fishing in Destiny: Rising, including how to catch fish, what to do with them, and how to exchange them for loot.

To fish in Destiny: Rising, you need a fishing rod and some bait. You get both during the introductory quest from Pandora-7. Head to any of the available fishing spots in Haven, Jiangshi Metro, or Red Sea Rift. You can find them in the Target list on the map, and more will unlock as you unlock Fishing Abilities.

Head to the spot, select the bait and the rod, and it’s time to fish:

  1. Cast the line and wait for the button to glow yellow.
  2. Press the button to catch the fish.
  3. If it’s a grey or blue rarity fish, you’ll catch them instantly. For rarer fish, you need to hold the bar over the fish by continuously clicking. Mythic fish and above have an additional skill check.

The rarity of the fish depends on your bait and luck. Rare baits provide a higher Rarity bonus, increasing your chance to catch a Legendary or even Mythic fish. How hard it is to catch the fish depends on your rod. Rarer fishing rods drain fish’s stamina faster and have larger bars.

Once you catch some fish, you can sell them for Angler Tokens. To sell the fish, find it in your inventory and select Sell. This takes you to the fish-selling menu, where you can select individual fish or sell them all at once.

Both baits and rods have limited uses, and you need to resupply every now and then to keep fishing. You’ll get a few during the introductory quest and as you increase the Fishing Level, but those won’t be enough. To get more, spend Glimmer and Angler Tokens in the Fishing tab of the Exchange store.

There are several rewards you can get for fishing apart from contributing to your weekly activity in the casual modes (including Iron Bar, Sparrow Racing, and Shadowshaper Duels).

Here are the rewards you can get by fishing:

  • Fishing Level rewards: Bait, fishing rods, Enhancement Prisms, and Glimmer.
  • Angler Token exchange: Bait, fishing rods, shaders, Artifactual Dust, and meals.

Most of these rewards are to fuel your future fishing sessions, but there are a few exclusive rewards like the Kill This Love weapon shader that has a similar color palette to the Dance of Death skin for Gwynn. Apart from occasional cosmetics, you may occasionally be able to fish out a Mythic weapon or two. The chance is low, but it’s there.
