Destiny 2’s roadmap for 2024 – Everything coming this year

Here's what to expect from the future of the beloved franchise.

Despite how it sounds, The Final Shape was not the final end for Destiny 2. There’s still more to come from the sci-fi franchise beyond its 10th year.

Destiny 2 is changing the way it delivers content, but content is still on the way. Bungie has revealed some of what to expect in 2024 for the series, and we have a good idea of what to expect thanks to some announcements made by the studio.

Here’s what to expect from Destiny 2 in 2024 and beyond.

The content scheduled for Destiny 2 in 2024 is released in Episodes, which is basically just a different name and deployment schedule for seasons. Episodes last 18 weeks and take place in three acts that all last six weeks apiece.

June 2024 – The Final Shape and Episode: Echoes

The Final Shape and its first post-campaign events take place over the months of June, July, and August 2024. The storyline includes Saint-14, Osiris, Failsafe, and a new character named The Conductor as Guardians head to Nessus to chase down an “echo” that was released from the Traveler when the Witness was killed.

Echoes features new gear, activities, missions, storylines, cutscenes, and more. Additionally, the Solstice seasonal event also takes place during the episode.

September 2024 – Episode: Revenant

The second episode will begin sometime in September and is called Revenant. This episode deals with the Fallen and their attempt to find a new home. It’s “dark fantasy” themed and is “about slaying vampires with a touch of splicer mixed in.” The main antagonist appears to be the Fanatic, Fikrul, and their army of Scorn.

The episode features a “vampire hunter fantasy” along with some awesome-looking armor and potion crafting. It will include new story missions, quests, weapons, and activities over the course of its 18 weeks.

The Festival of the Lost seasonal event will likely take place in October during Episode Two.

December 2024 – Episode: Heresy

The final episode currently scheduled in 2024 is Heresy, themed around the Hive pantheon of gods such as Savathun, Xivu-Arath, and Oryx. Bungie said it wants to “shake up the snowglobe” of the pantheon.

Heresy marks the return to Oryx’s Dreadnaught ship, which hasn’t been accessible or playable since the original Destiny game. More story missions, gear, quests, and cutscenes are coming in Heresy, as in the other episodes.

The Dawning seasonal event will likely also take place during Heresy, sometime in December.

2025 and beyond – Codename: Frontiers

At the end of its Journey Ahead video, Bungie teased something named Codename: Frontiers. Nothing else has been announced or confirmed about this project yet, but it’s likely a new expansion of some kind that will push the universe forward.

And for now, this is all that has been confirmed about Destiny 2’s future roadmap. It’s possible that more about Codename: Frontiers will be revealed before 2024 comes to a close, so stay tuned.
