Warzone players are getting hotboxed on Ashika Island thanks to Halloween CoD update

Is this a trick or a treat?

When someone says they’ve been getting smoked in Call of Duty, an immediate reaction would be to assume they’ve been getting bodied in ranked. It didn’t use to mean that an entire map has been completely smoked off to celebrate the season.

During The Haunting event, which is ongoing, several maps have received a haunted visual overhaul to celebrate the Halloween season, and that includes the Warzone maps. But no map has gotten such a major change that it so drastically affects playability like Ashika Island.

Ashika Island is one of the smaller maps for both Warzone and DMZ, serving as the place to go for Resurgence mode and for DMZ missions that necessitate high-octane action as quickly as possible. The most recent update to the game, though, has doused the entire island in a thick fog that makes Ashika Island look like the Snoop Dogg and Blunt Fingers operators smoked the place out before the party got started.

Several other maps got the fog meter turned up during the event, but because of the amount of fog that was already present on Ashika Island given its coastal setting, it’s now way too high. Several Warzone players have referred to the hotboxed Ashika map as “basically unplayable” since they can barely see what’s in front of them.

At least DMZ players will start the match on the ground already; battle royale players have to jump from the plane, and it’s not an understatement to say that you literally cannot see a single feature from the plane. You can still spot enemies redeploying and dropping in from above you once you’re on the ground, but trying to spot enemies while you’re falling through the fog? Forget it.

While the thick fog is thematic for The Haunting event, it’s causing players to go out of their way and dodge a map they’re already not too fond of.
