Verdansk’s return to Warzone reportedly set for early 2025—but could be delayed

The situation appears to be in flux.

The long-rumored return of Call of Duty: Warzone’s original battle royale map, Verdansk, is currently scheduled for early 2025, according to a report.

The new report from prolific leaker @BobNetworkUK suggests that Verdansk is currently scheduled to return in season two of Black Ops 6, which would line it up for a likely release sometime in February 2025. But its return “could be pushed back further as Raven Software are reportedly behind on their project deadlines,” according to Bob.

Warzone players have been pining for Verdansk’s return for several years now after it was replaced in the original game by CoD: Vanguard’s Caldera map. Since the Warzone 2.0 iteration began in 2022, there have been two new BR maps called Al Mazrah and now Urzikstan, both of which have failed to live up to Verdansk’s hype for many.

Reports as far back as December 2023 have suggested that Verdansk would be coming back for Black Ops 6, so players have been excited about it for a while. But potential uncertainty about Verdansk’s assumed return won’t sit well with the community. The map has long been a nostalgic trip for gamers who fondly look back on the original game’s release in 2020 when Verdansk was the only option available.

Funnily enough, Verdansk did return to CoD earlier this year, but only in Warzone Mobile. The iOS and Android version of the CoD battle royale features the map in its original form before it evolved over time with in-game events and even a trip back in time to the era of 1984 for Black Ops Cold War.

Elsewhere in the CoD franchise, Bob also reported that development on Infinity Ward’s next game in the franchise is at a “standstill” as “the team is seemingly unhappy with the narrative and mechanics of the game, and Activision is putting severe pressure on the studio as a whole.”
