There are so many skills to play around with in Borderlands 4 that you may wonder how to respec them to start from scratch and get the ideal combination. Here’s everything you need to know about that.
Respeccing your character in Borderlands 4 is all about regaining skill points and experimenting with fresh builds, whether you want to optimize for co-op playstyle or tweak your solo Vault Hunter adventure. The process is pretty straightforward, so even if you are deep into the action, all you have to do is come to the place, reset, and set up with a whole new loadout.
With that said, here’s how you can respec in Borderlands 4.
How to unlock respec in Borderlands 4
Respeccing doesn’t come unlocked right from the start, and you have to complete the “Down and Outbound” main mission to get there. It’s the third mission after Guns Blazing and Recruitment Drive.

Once you meet Conway during this mission, access to the first Respec Machine opens up. This is where she gives you the Digirunner as well.
You will find the first Respawn Machine located inside The Launchpad’s main hub. It’s easy to spot—look at the compass above or open the map, and look for a symbol that’s a person inside a recycling triangle.
After you use this, you’ll find similar stations in most Faction Towns, such as Carcadia and Belton’s Bore, as well as major Safe Houses scattered across Kairos.
How to reset skill points in Borderlands 4
Approach one of these Respec Machines and hold the interact button (Square button for PlayStation controller and E on keyboard) to open the menu. The Machine will show a skill tree replica and the cost to respec. This cost should depend on your level.

In my case, I am at Level 4, and the Machine was asking $3,299 to respec all the acquired skills at the time of writing. So, the more you level up and the more skills you unlock, the more the respec cost increases.
Pay the price, and then you may either press the “Respec Tree” or the “Respec All” option; it’s up to you. Just keep in mind:
- Respec Tree will refund points from just the skill tree that’s currently selected
- Respec All resets every single skill you’ve invested in, across all trees
As long as you stay inside the menu, you can redistribute points as many times as you want and keep tweaking your build without spending again. But once you exit, you have to pay cash to make further changes. In my experience, the price was lower ($2,969) if I wanted to respec right away.
