You won’t have to wait until launch day to get Borderlands 4 ready on your systems. Pre-loading officially begins on Sept. 10, 2025, across all platforms, giving everyone a full 48-hour window to download the game before release day.

Those who pre-ordered digitally will be able to start downloading the game as soon as the feature unlocks, ensuring they’re fully prepared for the release. Meanwhile, players picking up physical copies will need to go through the standard disc installation process and apply any day-one updates before jumping into the action. Either way, you should be able to hit the ground running the moment the game launches worldwide.

Borderlands 4 pre-load size and storage space

Borderlands 4 players will want to clear some space ahead of launch, as storage requirements differ quite a bit depending on the platform. On PlayStation 5, the game comes in at 28.168 GB (Version 01.002.001), while Xbox Series X|S users will need around 29.5 GB. Both console versions remain relatively lightweight, making downloads and installations fairly quick.

PC players, however, will need to prepare for a much larger footprint. The Steam and Epic Games Store versions require 65 GB of free storage space. This size increase is expected, as the PC edition includes higher resolution textures, uncompressed audio, and extra graphical assets designed to fully take advantage of modern hardware. For those planning to enjoy the game at its best, the additional space ensures Borderlands 4 can deliver its full visual and technical experience.
