As there are so many options to choose from when creating your character and an effective team, it can be challenging at first to decide what to go with, especially with so many classes and subclasses. One thing I didn’t realize when creating my character was that in BG3, some races have better affinities to certain classes and even subclasses, which isn’t uncommon and is something I’ve experienced in World of Warcraft.

So, to ensure you have the best race for the best class and subclass, check out their affinities and do a lot of reading before you make any decisions.

Choosing a class or subclass can be overwhelming in Baldur’s Gate 3. Still, if you can’t decide, BG3 offers a multiclassing feature that allows you to switch between another class or character, which means you won’t be stuck with one class and can play BG3 however you want to.

Which BG3 subclasses are best?

Ultimately, your best subclass depends on your party makeup and individual classes. So, the best subclasses for each class differ by how you choose to play. Subclasses boost your character’s offensive, defensive, and utility stats. Players pick subclasses between the levels of one and three. They provide between two and four extra class abilities. I chose Warlock as my class, so I went with The Fiend as my subclass. The Fiend grants temporary hitpoints when you kill a target, allows you to add a d10 to an ability check, and gains resistance to a specific damage type.

Once again, choosing which class to start with is highly dependent on how you want to play, but if you want to breeze through the game with as much ease as possible, choosing the Fighter class seems to be the way to go, thanks to the classes’ combat prowess and wide proficiency of weapons and armor.
