All FF16 hunt locations and how to beat them

They're mostly easy to beat—don't worry.

After unlocking the second half of Final Fantasy 16, there are quite a few new features for you to try and use, including the Hunt Board, which contains the Notorious Marks. Notorious Marks, or ‘hunts’ as they’re commonly called in the Blizzard dungeon crawler, are deadly creatures terrorizing Valisthea. By placing a flyer on the Hunt Board, citizens hope someone is brave enough to kill them, which is where Clive comes in.

Although the flyers list a general location for the marks, they aren’t the most helpful. So here are the locations for all the Notorious Marks in Final Fantasy 16 and how to beat them.

Exact locations of all Final Fantasy 16 hunts and how to beat them

FF16 Ahriman location and how to beat

To beat Ahriman, there’s only one mechanic you need to be careful of: his large AoE spell. You’ll need to dodge out of this area to avoid getting hit because if you are, you’ll be killed instantly. So, as soon as you see the ground turn red, start running or dodge a few times to get out. Other than this, Ahriman doesn’t have any other mechanics that you need to worry about. And seeing as he’s a C-rank monster, he won’t be too much of a hassle to defeat.

FF16 Aruna: The Angel of Death location and how to beat

To beat Aruna, you’ll need to be careful of its attacks, especially when it rushes at you or places multiple AoE spells on the ground. The easiest way to avoid getting hit by these is to dodge and strike after it does because it has a bit of a cooldown time. Besides that, there isn’t too much to worry about with this fight, and it should only take a few minutes.

FF16 Belphegor location and how to beat

BelphegorB20 Renown, 8,000 Gil, and Two Dragon TalonsThe Broken Hilt, Rosaria. The closest waypoint is Eastpool.

To beat Belphegor, you must avoid its attacks, which is pretty easy initially, as he also stays on the ground for the first half of its health bar. However, after knocking its health down to around 50 percent, you’ll need to be careful of aerial attacks and his fiery breath.

The easiest way to avoid this is to dodge to the side rather than backward, as this is quite a long fire spell. Or you can move behind him and strike while his spell is underway. If you can avoid his attacks, you’ll defeat him quickly.

FF16 Dozmare, the Griffin, location and how to beat

To beat Dozmare in Final Fantasy 16, you must be careful when he flies in the air because the effects he puts on the ground mean two things. If there’s no effect on the ground, that means he’s going to lunge at you, but if there’s a light and some wind beneath him, there will be an AoE attack, so you need to dodge back and out of the way.

Once you master dodging those two moves, you can strike when the iron is hot, use your potions when necessary, and defeat him relatively quickly.

FF16 Flan Prince: Muddy Murder location and how to beat

To beat the Flan Prince, you need to dodge his tentacles, which he raises and slams into the ground. You’ll also need to be wary of his body slam, and the best way to avoid it is to dodge to either side rather than backward. The only other mechanic you should be careful of is when he wraps his arms around himself—this means that he’s going to windmill them around himself in one direction and then the next. It’s a pretty dangerous attack, so you must dodge backward at least two to three times to avoid getting hit.

As he is an A-rank mark, you may want to use a Stoneskin Tonic to increase your defense, so his attacks won’t hurt as much, and use your health potions as needed.

FF16 Sekhret, the Minotaur, location and how to beat

To beat Sekhret in Final Fantasy 16, there are only two mechanics you’ll need to watch for and dodge. For the first mechanic, he’ll start swinging and spinning around with his weapon. You’ll need to dodge back with every swing.

And in the second mechanic, he swings his weapon back and then rushes at you. As soon as you see him draw his weapon back, dodge to the side to avoid getting hit. If you can do that, you’ll be okay. But it’s a good idea to stock up on health potions and the Stoneskin Tonic before entering this battle.

FF16 Severian location and how to beat

You must be careful of its swords and laser-like abilities to beat Severian. It can be hard to dodge at times, so you may need to Phoenix shift out of the way or dodge a few times to escape its attack. If you’re like me and aren’t too great at dodging, I found the Stoneskin Tonic incredibly helpful as it increases your defense for a limited time. So I was able to stay alive a little much easier.

FF16 Fastitocalon location and how to beat

Fastitocalon is a tortoise-like Notorious Mark that unlocks after starting the main quest, Riddle of the Sands. Its attacks are slow, so you can dodge and parry them easily, and the same goes for his water projectiles. The only moves to watch out for are his spinning shell mechanic, where he spins toward you, and his fast spin with AoE ground explosions. It’s best to dodge out of the way and wait for an opportunity to attack. If you can do that, you’ll beat him in no time.

FF16 Soul Stingers location and how to beat

The Soul Stingers are unlocked once you start the Out of the Shadows quest. They’re the easiest of the Notorious Marks to defeat because fighting them is like fighting a pack of grunts—they have low-level attacks, don’t hurt too much, and can be killed easily. Because there are a few of them, it’s best to use your AoE spells, but if you don’t have any equipped, you can lure them away from one another and defeat them individually.

FF16 Grimalkin location and how to beat

To unlock this Notorious Mark, you must start the main quest, Out of the Shadows. And similar to the Soul Stingers, Grimalkin is easy to kill. But you have to kill its pack before starting your fight with it. The only attack from Grimalkin you need to be wary of is when it leaps at you. When that happens, dodge and attack.

FF16 The Nine of Knives location and how to beat

The Nine of Knives is unlocked after you start the main quest, Out of the Shadows. And even though it is only an A-rank mark, it’s a challenging fight because he’s fast, and his attacks are deadly. You must watch out for when he pounces, lunges after using a smokescreen, and his poison smoke. For most of these, a single dodge out of the way is enough—but you have to be quick. Before beginning this fight, I recommend using the Stoneskin Tonic to enhance your defenses, especially if you’re not great at dodging.

FF16 Atlas, the Breaker of Worlds location and how to beat

AtlasS20,000 Gil, 50 Renown, and one Orichalcum.Cressida, Rosaria—the closest waypoint is Martha’s Rest.

To unlock Atlas, The Breaker of Worlds, you must start the Out of the Shadows quest. As Atlas will be the first S-rank you encounter, be sure to stock up on your consumables, enhance your abilities, equip the best gear, and, if you can, complete the Weird Science quest to increase the number of your consumables. When you’re ready to fight Atlas, be wary of the multiple AoE circles on the ground because they do damage, and Atlas will charge at you when you least expect it.

He will also swing his sword and attempt to stomp on you. Dodge as often as needed and always keep him in sight. If you’re bad at dodging, this fight will be tough. So, I recommend taking Titan Block, as it will help reduce some of the incoming damage.

If you take it slow and steady, dodge or block when necessary, and attack when he’s experiencing a cooldown, you’ll defeat him in no time.

FF16 Bomb King location and how to beat

You’ll unlock the Bomb King during the quest, Weird Science. As a B-rank Notorious Mark, he’s easy to kill, and there are only two attacks you need to avoid. The first is a giant bomb he throws at you. While it’s easy to dodge, it also leaves a fire on the ground that will damage you if you cross into the circle.

And the second is that it creates self-destructing mini-versions of itself that will destruct if it loses health or after some time has passed. The best way to defeat the Bomb King is to strike when his abilities are on cooldown, or when you spot an opening, and you’ll beat him in only a few minutes.

FF16 Dread Comet location and how to beat

NameRankRewardsLocation

The Dread Comet is unlocked after you complete the main quest, A Song of Hope. As its name suggests, one of its attacks is to bring comets down around you. So, dodge them and jump as many of the shockwaves as possible. You may be unable to avoid them all, so stock up on potions. But other than those two mechanics, the Dread Comet is easy to beat, and you get the Comet Feather, an excellent crafting material, as a reward.

FF16 The Pack location and how to beat

The Pack is unlocked as you start the main quest, A Song of Hope. Like the Soul Stingers, The Pack is a group of wild beasts that resemble dogs, and while they aren’t strong individually, they can be a bit of a handful as a collective. I highly recommend using your AoE abilities or singling out one pack dog at a time and taking care of it. Eventually, you’ll have defeated them all.

FF16 Carrot location and how to beat

You could also teleport to Martha’s Rest if you need to stock up on consumables. Screenshot by Dot Esports

Carrot, the Morbol, is unlocked during the quest, Please Sir, Can I Have Some Morbol, which you’ll get as you start the main quest, A Song of Hope. Like the Morbols you’ve faced in the past, dodge out of the way of its poison breath and poison AoE circles, and when it jumps from the water and lunges at you. It’s not very hard to beat, but having a lot of potions on hand is a good idea because you may find yourself dodging into poisoned puddles.

FF16 The Ten of Clubs location and how to beat

The Ten of Clubs is unlocked once you start the main quest, Things Fall Apart. As a B-ranked Notorious Mark, he isn’t too difficult to beat, as you can dodge his attacks and the AoE abilities he summons from the ground. But if you get struck by his sword, it will do a fair amount of damage. So, I highly recommend stocking up on your potions and the Stoneskin Tonic for that extra layer of defense, just in case dodging isn’t your strong suit.

As there are quite a few Notorious Marks, and because they’re locked behind the progress of your main campaign, I haven’t unlocked all of them yet, but I’ll update the list as soon as I do. And you’ll want to defeat them all, as well, to get the two trophies The Think, Mark! and Hunter, Hunted.
