Sneaky to start in the mid lane this weekend for Cloud9’s LCS team

The king has returned.

We imagine C9 CEO and founder Jack Etienne stood outside of Zachary “Sneaky” Scuderi’s room this week with a boombox over his head, blaring “Careless Whisper” for the rest of the gaming house to hear.

If this actually happened (we really hope it did), it would be because C9 are off to the worst start in their history as an NA LCS team. Our dream of Etienne’s hopelessly romantic ploy to ask Sneaky to rejoin the starting roster may be exactly what the team needs. That’s right, you guessed it, Sneaky is coming back, according to Cloud9’s own Academy broadcast yesterday.

The academy team played yesterday, and Greyson “Goldenglue” Gilmer was back on the B-team. Mid laner Nicolaj Jensen and support Andy “Smoothie” Ta already rejoined the LCS team in week three, but Sneaky remained on the bench in favor of Goldenglue up until now.

Now, however, Sneaky will play once more for the starting lineup, but he’ll be the team’s mid lane, rather than the bot lane carry that he’s become iconic for throughout his career. Jensen will be in the bottom lane accompanied by Tristan “Zeyzal” Stidam, the team’s Academy support.

While it’s great for C9 fans to see their original team (mostly) back in action, the whole situation does suck a little bit for Goldenglue. Out of the three subs that were brought up to the starting squad at the start of the split, he was definitely the best, and he made a great case for himself to be a starter. Perhaps after this split, or right in the middle of the split like 100 Thieves, another LCS team will motion for a trade after realizing just how much he’s improved this year.

C9’s first game of the week with Sneaky in-tow is tomorrow against FlyQuest at 8pm CT.

Update July 13 12:22pm CT: Cloud9’s broadcast team confirmed the starting lineup on the Academy stream yesterday. The story has been updated to reflect this information.
