LoL’s free champion rotation: April 16

Take a look at this week's free-to-play champions.

It would take hundreds, maybe even thousands of hours playing League of Legends to collect every champion without spending your hard-earned cash by the truckload. That’s why the weekly free champions handed out by Riot Games can be great for trying them all out before actually committing to buying anything.

Every Tuesday, 20 out of the 168 total League champions are selected to become free-to-play in unranked playlists. Here are this week’s free champions.

League free champion rotation—April 23 to 30

In this week’s free League champion rotation, we have an abundance of kings, the embodiment of mischief, and even an agent of serendipity. Now that the stars have aligned, at least for this week, you can try champions like the tanky Support, Alistair, the icy spirit, Anivia, who’s crushing the mid-lane, or the ferocious king of the top lane, Trundle.

Although many of these champs are crushing it on the Rift, there are a few free champions you should avoid, such as Graves, who has a 48.19 percent win rate in the Jungle, Ezreal, with his 47.95 percent win rate in the bot lane, and Azir, who has an abysmal 45.64 percent win rate in the mid lane, according to U.GG, the League stat tracker.

However, if winning is your aim, try Anivia mid, Jhin, or Twitch in the bot lane, Trundle in the top lane, and Lillia or Viego in the Jungle because these champs are currently dominating their lanes.

So, if you’re ready to dive onto the Rift or the Howling Abyss, these are the current 20 free League champions:

  • Alistar
  • Anivia
  • Azir
  • Bard
  • Ezreal
  • Fiddlesticks
  • Gnar
  • Graves
  • Gwen
  • Heimerdinger
  • Jarvan IV
  • Jhin
  • Katarina
  • Kled
  • Lillia
  • Lissandra
  • Trundle
  • Twitch
  • Viego
  • Zoe

Those new to League may want to consider trying Graves or Ezreal. These are two easier champions from the free champion rotation list to play this week.

This free-play rotation will update on April 30, with 20 more characters added. Any debuting League champions are added three weeks after release.
